Highfield, The Masonic Home of Delaware has contracted with the following physicians and specialists:

1. Physicians:

Dr. Winter visits the Home once a week. Intermediate Health Care residents are examined by the Doctor every two months and as conditions warrant. They also receive a physical once annually.  Personal Care residents are examined by the Doctor once every six months, receive an annual physical and are seen more frequently by the Doctor if their condition warrants. The Doctor prescribes their medication, treatments, diets, activities, laboratory testing, physical, occupational and speech therapy and provides outside medical referrals on an as-needed basis.

3 Ophthalmologist:

Residents schedule appointments as needed with Dr. Lavenburg’s office.  All billings are done by the individual offices.

ALL PHYSICIANS UNDER CONTRACT WITH HIGHFIELD, THE MASONIC HOME OF DELAWARE ARE REQUIRED TO BE ON CALL 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK FOR EMERGENCIES.

4. Nursing Service:

A registered professional nurse and/or licensed practical nurse is on duty seven days a week, 24-hours a day. Able residents are assisted with the Activities of Daily Living on an as needed basis. All residents are encouraged to function at their optimal physical capacity. Health Care residents are assisted with all activities of daily living. Their plan of care is a team effort of all nursing personnel under direct supervision of the Director of Nursing.

5.  Dietary Service:

Residents select lunch and dinner items from individual menus that are supplied daily. Menus rotate on a four-week cycle. There are also alternate lunch and dinner selections offered each day. Breakfast is served family style. Bedtime snacks are also available.  All able residents have their meals in the Dining Room. Meals are served by the Nursing Staff to residents in Health Care. Special diets are ordered by the Medical Director and are reviewed by a Registered Dietitian. When ordered by the Medical Director, dietary supplements are given. The costs of the supplements are billed to the resident.

 

6. Pharmaceutical Services:

Medications are usually purchased by Health Care residents through MEDCARELTC. The State of Delaware Nursing Home Regulations require facilities to contract with pharmaceutical services for monitoring purposes and safety issues. The resident is billed directly by MEDCARELTC. If the resident has a prescription drug program acceptable by MEDCARELTC through a third-party medical insurer then MEDCARELTC will first bill the prescription program, then the resident.

8. Physical Rehabilitation:

When ordered by the Medical Director, we provide residents Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapies. Services are rendered at the Home in our on-site rehab center and billed directly to the resident.        

Services are provided by a professional rehab staff.

9. Diagnostic Services:

 

All blood work, urine specimens, sputum cultures, etc., as ordered by the Medical Director are performed onsite by:

At times, residents may need to have diagnostic procedures such as CT Scans, MRI’s, etc. Families are requested to provide transportation to outside facilities. If families are unable to transport, the Home will bill the resident for transportation, based on the current fee schedule. In emergency situations, residents will be transported via ambulance.

Arrangements for residents to be seen by Dr. Burke are made by the Nursing Staff. The resident is billed directly for all services rendered.

 

11. Hairdresser and Seamstress:

Hairdresser and Seamstress services are available on-site. (Current Fee Schedules for these services are provided at the time of admission).

12. Resident Activities: Recreational, Social and Spiritual:

The Home offers a varied activity program. Participation in daily activities is encouraged as they enhance over-all well-being, provides socialization and physical excursive.   Each month, calendars are provided to every resident listing activities offered, along with the time and location.  Activities include: exercise classes, current events, yoga, cocktail parties, book club, country rides, bingo, and trips to local cultural and sporting events. The staff also provides small group programs and one-on-one visitations. The Home offers educational seminars, musical programs and entertainers as another avenue to enjoy leisure time.

13. Laundry Services:

Laundry services are on-site and are inclusive in the monthly fee. Dry cleaning services are available.  (Current Fee Schedule for this service is provided at time of admission).

14. Library:

A collection of books and books on tape are available in the Highfield Library.  Every two to three months the Home receives on loan, a variety of large print books from the New Castle County Public Library system.

15. Gift Shop:

 

The Gift Shop is located on the first floor of the Main Building.  It is usually open daily, hours are posted.  It is well stocked with toiletries, cards, snacks, and reasonably priced gifts and is staffed by Volunteers.  All proceeds benefit the Home.
